The plywood panels, sawn to about the required width, now have to be scarfed together, to get them up to the requried length. The plywood sheets are tapered to a very fine angle. In this case the length of the scarf was about 10 times the thickness of the plywood. By stacking the plywood sheets with an offset of 10 times the their thickness, it is easy to get the required slope using a block plane.
